“Modern Alibi’s musical identity is a tapestry of influences, seamlessly weaving together British-rock-inspired guitars, grooving bass lines, modern drumbeats, and a rich and rhythmic vocal tone. Their ability to balance heavy vibes with catchy melodies sets them apart in a crowded musical landscape.”
“an adrenaline filled rock song that takes the listener through the feelings of being suddenly and shockingly love-stricken...With a sound reminiscent of the Arctic Monkeys and the Killers, yet still maintaining a unique, one-of-a-kind sound.” - Sarah Cudd
Modern Alibi is an alternative rock band from Charlotte, NC, founded by musician and songwriter, Holden Scott. The band’s high energy performances have landed them numerous shows at some of the most popular bars and venues in Charlotte. They are quickly making a name for themselves in North Carolina where they have been playing to sold-out crowds in Charlotte and in surrounding areas. The official lineup includes Holden Scott (rhythm guitarist and lead singer), Sloane Letourneau (lead guitarist), Josh King (bassist), and Christian Sturt (drummer).
The band was started by Holden as a solo project in 2021 with a focus on songwriting and production. While studying music production in college, Holden began writing and producing songs. Throughout 2021, he also gained experience playing gigs as a solo artist as well as with various talented local musicians which enabled him to experiment with his sound and original music. After discovering a love for both songwriting and performance, he decided to form a band to bring his musical ideas to the stage. This musical journey has evolved from a solo singer/songwriter guitarist into a high energy four-piece band.
The evolution of the band included the addition of a lead guitarist, a new bassist, and new drummer to the lineup during 2022. In June of 2022, Holden met Sloane and was blown away by his accomplished guitar skills and dynamic stage performance. Although the youngest member of the band, Sloane has trained for over 8 years and has developed precision and timing rivaling players far beyond his years. His expert riffs and impressive solos bring incredible energy to the band. Sloane’s huge personality is always a hit, making it difficult for the crowd to sit still. Then, in September 2022, Josh King became an official member of the band after filling in as a session player to help meet an important gig obligation. Originally trained in jazz, he floored the group by learning and nailing almost 40 alternative rock songs in 3 days. With his solid grasp of music theory and expert timing, he adds his own flair to the music and brings an upbeat and grooving vibe to the band. Christian completed the band when he joined in October 2022. He has been a professional drummer for seven years and has built a well-respected reputation as a musician and performer, performing on stages across the country in front of thousands of people. After picking up the drumsticks at the age of seven, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in music and began learning and taking inspiration from the rock and roll drum greats.
The band has created a unique and energetic sound with its original music. The four-piece indie rock band delivers a heavy vibe tempered by grooving bass lines, modern drumbeats mixed with vintage guitar tones, and topped off with a uniquely rich and rhythmic vocal tone. The band’s sound has been described by many as a cross between the Arctic Monkeys and twenty one pilots.
The high energy band has also been gaining popularity on social media. The Modern Alibi Instagram site has been catching the eyes of many new followers as well as popular artists from the band’s Reels content where they introduce their original music, showcase highlights of their live stage performances, and put their stamp on popular cover songs. The band recently caught the attention of Mike Posner who gave them kudos by reposting their rendition of his song “Cooler than Me” on his Instagram page. Another favorite of Modern Alibi, IDK How, has commented with its approval of the band’s versions of two of IDK How’s popular songs. The band’s great chemistry, charisma, high energy, and musical talent which comes across in live performance as well as its social media content is driving this growing popularity.
Modern Alibi is making great strides so far in 2023 and has ambitious plans for the rest of the year. The band was excited to release its debut single titled "Seventies" in February followed by its second song release, “Silver Spoon” in May and its third song release, “Boy You Better” in November. The band plans to release their first EP in late December or early January. They are promoting their upcoming releases and the calendar is filling up quickly with both new and repeat venues.
